30.03.10

morning run:
Chester
Shirley
Rufus
Reggie
Gowron
Frijolita
Eve
(7)

I took Rufus twice in a row because I think it will help his behavior, like it has Ernie's. Everyone was good, but Frijolita was a bit of an ass coming home at the cow pasture (not listening, running ahead). Not a big deal, but she came home on the leash. We went extra long because we kept running into large groups of people working in the salt on our route home; southern charcos are being worked heavily right now, should stay to the north for a couple weeks.

29.03.10

morning run:
Gracie
Bette
George
Ernie
Rufus
Rita
Posey
(7)

They were all were angels, in spite of Rufus being too worked up at the start (just excited). He calmed down enough on the trail behind our house for me to put him on the leash, and was good thereafter; came off the leash not much more than 1km in and stayed off until near home. We went fairly long, but it was cool and windy, so George kept up just fine. Rufus and Posey had to salute the cows on the way home, but they didn't bark or chase, they just kind of ran up to them and stared in awe at their colossal hugeness.

Miles
Henry
Tito
Maggie
Ziggy
Jack
Lily
Elewah
(9)

Elewah was kind of a pain in the ass, and Zasu hurt Roni at the gate, but we recovered and had a nice walk down the greenway.

27.03.10

morning run:
Alice
Lucy
Ginger
Oscar
Otto
Archie
Godzilla
Osita
(8)

I threw Osita in at the end against my better judgement. She was okay, but a little willful, too far out ahead and not listening very well, so I put her on the leash the whole way back. It was hot and humid and we left late, so we only went a short distance with so many large dogs, halfway on the beach and home in the monte. Still, was fun and everyone had a good time swimming.

26.03.10

morning run:
Chester
Shirley
Ernie
Reggie
Gowron
Blue
Truman
Elewah
(8)

Longish, but not super long. However, I failed to take the humidity into account; we were all wrecked out in no-man's land, so we came home at way-out "Y" instead of continuing on the full 10k. Shirley and Ernie had the hardest time in the humidity, and we had to go slow at the end. Elewah was good and fulfilled her Queen-of-the-Monte duties by correctly showing us the shortest way home from the intersection. Should always remember that heavier dogs have a hard time in the humidity, and not go so long with them.

morning run:
Gracie
Bette
George
Ernie
Rufus

Frijolita was uncharacteristically bad a couple of times (running up to people and barking, not listening). Otherwise good.

evening walk:
Zasu
Miles
Henry
Tito
Greta
Maggie
Ziggy
Lily
Jack

Greta led L&J on a Cow-ward romp, but was reeled in if only due to the impressive size of the cows. Everyone had fun.

morning run:
Alice
Lucy
Ginger
Ernie
Oscar
Otto
Archie
Rufus
(8)

Normal Sisters and Brothers run, but we went longer than I had planned (all my shortcuts added up to a long road). Ginger's first back after feeling out of sorts. Everyone was good. Came back on the beach all the way; the ocean is cold and violent, but everyone liked it anyway.

22.03.10

morning run:
Chester
Shirley
Ernie
Frankie
Reggie
Gowron
Rita
Osita*
Elewah**
(9)

A less-than-fortuitous start turned out alright in the end: Roni was run over at the gate by Ernie, Chester and Reggie, who were overwrought with some nameless doggie emotion at having seen Melle and Ferdinand (or whatever their names are); they had somehow appeared at our gate, sans owners ("sans" is French!). Roni went out to see what was going on with them as we were readying to depart, and when she opened the gate to come back into the yard those three meat-heads ran her over like a cheap bus ticket. Very bad. We all collected ourselves and the rest of us left in pursuit, unaware that Osita had invited herself along in her usual sneaky way. We ran into Elewah on the shrimpery path, and she seemed game, so she came with the whole way as we ran Yon Three Dunces down. We continued on for a relatively short run (been a lot of 10k's lately). Frankie started off the leash, but ended up on it after she barked at some kid who was inexplicably standing in the middle of nowhere, apparently waiting for the Mayan pixie bus-line? Everyone was good overall. This missive has exhausted me.

20.03.10

morning run:
Gracie
Bette
George
Ernie
Truman
Posey
Godzilla
(7)

Was long, everyone was good until right at the very end on our road, where Truman inexplicably led the charge around Marcos' corner, even though there didn't seem to be anyone or anything there. They all came back quickly, no idea why they did that. Otherwise perfect.

19.03.10

morning run:
Alice
Lucy
Ernie
Otto
Oscar
Archie
Rufus
Blue
(8)

Rufus totally talked his way onto this one, was very good in spite of getting poo on his head early on (we therefore ended up at the beach, so I could wipe him off). Ginger wasn't feeling good still this AM, so she sat it out. Everyone was good.

Tuesday
(8)

One too many, but Eve got thrown in at the last sec. Tuesday was off the leash too much, apparently. We went long, and I let her off out in no-man's land, but I thought I would try letting her off a little more besides. We ran into a group of guys going into the monte to work in the salt, and they had dogs with them, who were nice; cute little pit-bull looking things about the size of Gracie's pups. Tuesday led the charge to greet them, would not listen to me and shied away from me when I went to put her back on the leash. Everyone else listened and followed me. There was no problem, and we were all disentangled in a few seconds, but Tuesday's attitude should be noted. She was on the rest of the way home. Still was a nice run.

16.03.10

morning run:
Gracie
Bette
George
Reggie
Rufus
Truman
Godzilla
(7)

Long one. George drank a fair bit of water but was a trooper and kept up throughout. Rufus was on and off the leash and behaved himself well. There were trucks and motos and people in the monte. Early.

evening walk:
Zasu
Miles
Henry
Tito
Ziggy
Maggie
Lily
Jack
(8)

Long walk down the greenway. Jack ran from a moto at one point, but the driver was nice and sanity prevailed.

15.03.10

morning run:
Alice
Lucy
Ginger
Chester
Ernie
Oscar
Otto
Archie
(8)

One too many, but Ernie just had to go for the same old reason, and he's become so reliably good that it's okay once in a while. Alice once again was not dragging her heels the whole way. Everyone was good. I thought Archie might've had a slight limp on the trail home, but not sure.

11.03.10

morning run:
Ernie
Reggie
Greta
Frankie
Blue
Truman
Rita
Posey
(8)

One more than normal, but Ernie kind of talked me into it; if he wasn't so fat I would not have allowed it. Greta had a hard time. We left early-ish but it is getting hotter earlier. Frankie was good, off the leash most of the way.

10.03.10

morning run:
Gracie
George
Bette
Ernie
Rufus
Tuesday
Frijolita
(7)

Good group. Tuesday was good again, and off the leash a bit more than last time; still on anywhere near the house. Everyone else was stellar, except for Frijolita at the very end when she went a little cow-crazy (COWS! COWS!); she did not bark at them, though, she just ran off and acted loopy. Starting to get hot earlier in the day, have to start going earlier.

afternoon walk:
Zasu
Henry
Lily
Jack
(4+1)

Boscha went along again. Lots of people and irritations, but a good time was had by all.

07.03.10

morning run:
Gracie
Shirley
Ernie
Tuesday
Truman
Osita
Posey
(7)

The best Tuesday has done in a long time. She was on and off the leash the whole way (on at the end of course). Didn't give me any attitude, had a good time. Everyone else was good.

evening walk:
Zasu
Miles
Tito
Henry
Ziggy
Maggie
April
(7)

April was on the leash almost the entire way, and the one place I let her off she screwed me immediately (darted off into the bush, came back muddy and in her own sweet time). Everyone else was good.

Friday, March 5, 2010

05.03.10

morning run:
Alice
Lucy
Ginger
Ernie
Greta
Reggie
Frankie
(7)

This group should be called "Frankie and the Fatties," and sing doo-wop (Alice could do the "bom bom bom duuuuuh" part). They were excellent. Boscha accompanied us to the end of the coconut trail. Frankie was only on the leash for the start, was stellar throughout. We ran into the goat herd at the shrimpery intersection on the way back, and nobody barked, much less chased or harassed... okay, Ginger may have given them the eye when I couldn't see her. Sun was hot, air was chilly.

Another good group.

evening walk:
Zasu

Once again Boscha comes along for the whole walk. Everyone was good; Lily listens especially well, even when she is charging ahead (which is often). Cows are neat.

03.03.10

morning run:
Gracie
Bette
Chester
Otto
Ernie
Frijolita

All good. Went late, was starting to get hot; everyone except for Gracie and Chester drank a lot of water. Decent length, hopefully they will be tired, because we sure are (Elewah post-op).
