I took this crew for a walk between the land bridges. There were a ton of salt workers everywhere and everyone was really good, albeit with Roxy on the leash. Instead of just coming back over the alt. land bridge right away we looped around a bit via the cut-over to the road; Frankie did bark at some dude on a bike at one point (she should know better) but she cut it out quickly when I yelled at her. Other than that no surprises, nice walk.

Southern charcos: ~8k. We left with Xmul and Rufus on leashes (long and short, respectively). Rufus came off when we crossed the alt. land bridge and was a good boy throughout. This was Cookie's first big.girl run. She left off the leash and stayed off until the very end when I put her on the other end of the leash with Xmul at the land bridge. I also put Rufus on the short leash there, so I had three on leashes coming home. It would've been four but Hazel's collar was so encrusted with awful filth that I will not name that even I, grizzled as I am, could not bring myself to touch it. No matter, everyone was good to the gate. Cookie ran like a little champ and larked around hilariously in the monte. We encountered several vehicles and saw lots of people and she always did the right thing... perhaps with a little prompting a couple of times, but she's still a pup. Good girl. We kept a high pace for most of it and everyone had a good time.

Roni took this group for a walk around the cow pasture. Stella screwed her over a bit when she let her off the leash on the dirty road; she came back eventually but it is annoying when she turns her ears off, which is why she spends so much time on the leash. Everyone else was good the whole way. The heat was a bit much but Zasu is game, even at 17 years old.

I took this group for a walk between the land bridges. Ernie was on the leash to begin with but came off quickly and was good. I switched the long leash to Roxy for the rest of the walk and put Molly on the short one at the shrimpery coming home. Everyone was great and had a good time.

Roni took her electron.dog cloud out for a walk with Daisy on the leash to begin with. Daisy came off quickly and was a good girl the rest of the way. It was hot and humid and everyone was looking for shade on the way home but they all had a good time.

Au Soleil Couchant: ~7k. We took the long way to the swimming hole and the long way coming home, both via the alt. land bridge. Cookie was on the leash most of the time in the monte and off the leash on the beach; this was her first big-girl run and she acquitted herself very well. Despite our route we ran into a large group of salt workers east of the intersection, and they had a dog with them (not sure if it was with them or just mooching their stuff). Shirley, Rufus and Murci formed a greeting sortie and chased it for 10m until it turned to face them; it was little (about Cookie's size) with a pretty brindled coat. There were no hostilities or even much barking; the second I called to mine to get back to me they obliged and ignored the other dog and salt workers. We got barked at a little as we ran north but nothing came of it and we carried on. The swimming hole is now just a damp spot in the bottom of a strange depression in the monte, but Rufus still managed to cover his belly in mud. My plan had been the beach all along so I didn't care much - everyone washed themselves off nicely in the surf. I had Cookie and Murci on either end of the long leash and Rufus on the short leash at the shrimpery and everyone was good to the gate.

Au Soleil Couchant: ~6k. Instead of our usual way north we headed east from the shrimpery, cut north on the dirty road, and took the alt. land bridge to the intersection. On the home we took a similar route to the alt. land bridge. Even so we still ran into clusters of salt workers and their unfortunate side-effects on the monte... ah, well. Cookie and Roxy were on leashes for most of the way off the beach; on the beach they both came off and had a great time swimming and horsing around. To avoid a scene with the strays to the south I doubled up both leashes and had Posey and Truman on the other ends; Posey because she had done pretty much every gross thing she wanted to do the whole run despite being told "no", and Truman because he was the most likely to charge south at the end. We all arrived at the gate together and largely unbarked-at.

Roni took this group for a short loop in the monte. Miles' dawdling was on another level today; combined with Henry's new-found post-dental pep this made the walk mildly infuriating at times. The heat and incredible humidity did not help. Roni let Stella off the leash on the dirty road and, as is her wont, she pretended to be good for about half the walk and then turned her ears off at the hrimpery intersection to head west. Roni had to run her down to put her back on the leash. She's perfect on the leash and enjoys herself so I guess she'll stay that way a while longer. Not a huge amount of fun for Roni but everyone else enjoyed themselves.

I took this group for a walk between the land bridges. Ernie and Molly left on leashes but came off at the land bridge. We startled a small white dog on the other side of the land bridge when we appeared; it ran all the way south around the charco next to the land bridge and back west across that small path of sticks. Nobody else noticed much but I'll try to keep an eye out for it now. Shirley had to go on the leash for a spell when the other two came off because she was pushing the pace too much... with her hooked up the walk slowed down a bit and everyone had a better time screwing around. I ended up with Ernie and Molly back on leashes coming home and everyone was good to the gate despite being barked at by the strays to the south.

Roni took this group for a walk around the cow pasture. It was already getting a bit hot but nobody on this walk minded. Everyone waited for Roni to cross the road in both directions and behaved themselves well generally. Stella was on the leash the whole way and didn't pull once. Good group.

No-man's land: ~9k. This group needed a longer, faster run than we've been going on recently; despite the rain last night the monte is still really dry most places. There was one stretch of grey mud out in no-man's land proper that became extremely slippery in the shady patches, so much so that even slowing to a walk I had a hard time keeping my balance. Other than that it was nice: not too hot, no bugs yet. We kept a high pace and flew by batches of salt workers scattered through the monte with no issues. I knew when we left that I would have to carry Elewah home a bit to keep her from charging south when we got home to show off for the strays; however, I forgot about both Godzilla's and Frijolita's tendency to turn their ears off when there is mischief to be done. This is how I got stuck holding Elewah while those two ran off south just at the last turn home, dragging Lily and Jack with them. Roni was paying attention as we got close and helped reel them in; they came back quickly but I'll have to remember that Godzilla needs to be reigned in close to home. No harm, no foul, everyone was back inside the gate within a minute or two of each other.

Au Soleil Couchant: ~5k. We took the blue.bag trail to the beach at the tortuga sign, ran north, turned around and came back the same way. To the tortuga sign: ~2k. We left and came home on the beach for this one. The main purpose was to get Rufus out for a quickie, but Linda also got skipped over a couple of times and Cookie can always go for one of these. I only had Rufus on the leash at the very beginning; Cookie left off the leash and was perfect the whole way up the beach. Linda swam even more than Cookie did and had a blast. I came home with Cookie and Rufus both on leashes past the HoJo just to keep everyone honest as we passed the army encampment, but then Roni ran down to the beach in front of the house to get some pictures so I let Cookie off and she ran to Roni like a lunatic. Everyone had a good time.

North beach: ~7k. We took the medium way to the beach via A.S.C., headed north for a kilometer or so, turned around and came home via the tortuga sign. We skipped the blue.bag trail this time and cut through the charcos because they're so dry you can go straight across. I ended with Xmul and Luna on either side of the long leash and Reggie and Truman on either ends of the short one, wrangling all the way down the coco trail. This was all to avoid anyone charging off to the south to give those strays the what-for on the way home; it worked out well and we all arrived at the gate together. They all did a lot of swimming.

Au Soleil Couchant: ~5k. We did the short way to the beach via the blue.bag trail, headed north to A.S.C. and came back the way we went. Rufus came off the leash early, where I switched him for Roxy. I left Cookie on the long leash the whole way to the beach to get her used to feeling secure when we run by people and vehicles. We saw both and she was great; Roxy, on the other hand, still wants to bark at people but if she's on the leash and I tell her to knock it off she does. Everyone behaved themselves and had a good time swimming on the beach.
