28.07.14 (Vet)

vet trip:
Maggie*
Bosha
(2)

I need to start writing up things that we do with the animals that aren't walks or runs. Roni has pointed this out several times and I have been lax about it; after re-reading the recent history on the blog I can see she's right, since you might think we've been slacking off when in fact that opposite is true. This time I took Maggie in for scheduled surgery: she had bladder stones on her x-ray when I took her before Roni went to Pennsylvania and today was the first day that made sense to do it since Roni came back. I also took Bosha because she had on occasion complained of some pain near her hips that seemed suspiciously like Maggie's. We weren't expecting to find stones in Maggie when I took her so now we're being extra careful. I also took the two poor, wretched, misbegotten little kittens that someone dumped at the shrimpery. Our thinking was to have them tested and if they didn't have leukemia then we'd deal with it; for better or worse they did have leukemia so Sandra had to put them down. We did the most responsible, best possible thing we could, both for them and the environment, but it still saddened us. It turned out Bosha does not have stones but she does have a little bit of hip dysplasia starting so she probably should not go on runs anymore. Maggie, it turns out, had over 60 stones in total in her bladder: three large ones, including one that was half the size of a golf ball, and a boatload of tiny ones. No wonder she's been so cranky - that hurts! She had to stay at the vet's for a couple of days: it was pretty brutal surgery. What a trooper.
